I always had a manageable amount of work to do. My mangers made a point to have weekly check ins to assess where I was.
I enjoyed the work that I was asked to complete for an internal trading grid, wherein I was delegated the full responsibility of crafting and compiling a significant amount of data. My managers supported me along the way by conducting weekly meetings, but I felt as though this initial project was a milestone during my Co-Op at John Hancock wherein I came to understand and appreciate my own professional capabilities. I truly enjoy coming to work each day and feel as though I leave each day having learned something new. I feel supported and encouraged to achieve my best work. The environment is positive and collaborative.
I seriously have no complaints when it comes to my experience at John Hancock. My managers and team are wonderful and very accommodating to my schedule as I am captain of the Equestrian Team at Northeastern. I am looking forward to staying with the team through December as an extension of my Co-Op and I am truly appreciative of all the opportunities I have had thus far within the company.
The Co-Op on the Derivatives Onboarding team is a wonderful program that I would highly recommend. Coming from past internships in Private Wealth and Client Relationship Management, I was interested in learning more about how asset management functions. Not only do I feel as though I have grasped a better understanding of how the process operates, but I have been supported each day to accomplish my goals in my professional career. Working here over the past six months has flown by and I am very excited and honored to be staying with the Derivatives Onboarding team through December.
Collaborative, open, kind, supportive, encouraging.
I would say the key to success of any Co-Op or internship is having a willingness to learn. Be open and offer your help-- ask your team if you can assist or even just shadow for an hour or so to learn what they do on a daily basis.
