What did you like best about your internship/co-op? What type of work were you doing?

As I intern, I was given to work on current live systems. In most company they give side projects to intern, But not in JH. I was contributing to the level of full time software developer and this enabled me get exposure of best practices, effective ways to approach a problem.

What did you like least about your internship/co-op?

I would love pitch idea about having a game room in JH. surprising as it may seem but there is no game room in JH/Manulife Boston office.

With game room, employee can have stress buster and game enables attachment between employees.

Feedback to management about the internship/co-op program:

My manager is awesome and is very friendly. He was regularly concerned about my needs and if I am getting a correct direction from my teammate.

besides work, he was also interested in my personal development and asked if I like to work on different project to learn new technology. But I was mostly interested in existing project because I loved that application.

Social experience

To what degree did the team make you feel welcome, included and valued?
How often were there opportunities to participate in social activities with your colleagues?
Describe the office environment/culture.

Hmm, social activities are lacking in JH work culture. one or two outing in year makes the difference in work culture and bonding with employee. All work and no play makes jack a dull boy.

Advice to future interns applying to this company?

Go for it. They use newest tech stack for software dev. You will learn a lot from existing employee. Pay is somewhat less for internship, but that is trivial when you learn new things in JH/Manulife.
